The park is located in the basin of the Sava and Lonja Rivers, and is the largest protected swamp area in the Danube basin, boasting one of the largest habitations of white storks in Europe, and 250 different bird-species. In the village of Krapje, built in the 18th century, a series of wooden one-storey houses called “čardaci” or “trijemovi” are to be seen. They represent the climax of historical rural wooden architecture and traditional way of life in continental Croatia. In 1995, during the European Heritage Days, the historical rural village center was declared a “European Village of Architectural Heritage.”
Within the Park there are educational walking paths, interesting ethno collections, possibility of experience an old-fashioned ferry-boat drive, etc. The trip can be organized as half-day trip with lunch, or a whole-day trip with additional visit to the village of Čigoč – “The European Village of White Storks” (highly recommended).
