Drive to the small town of Jastrebarsko, situated 30 km south of Zagreb. The oldest building in Jastrebarsko is castle Erdödy from 15th ct., beautifully situated in the city park. This count family have had large influence on historical development of the town, as they were in possession of this castle and land, from the beginning of the 16th ct. until 20th ct. The castle has two impressive rounded towers, and the inner yard is decorated by arched doorways and Baroque columns.

Castle is surrounded by an old English garden that is nowadays protected monument of park architecture and also favourite promenade for the citizens and visitors of Jastrebarsko. A short walk and an exterior tour of the castle Erdödy (the interior is not adjusted for visitors).

Before going to the battle with Turks count Tomo Erdödy pledged to build a monastery in Jastrebarsko, if he wins the battle. So today Cistercit’s Monastery and the Church of Blessed Virgin Mary represent one of the most valuable sacral monuments of the north-western Croatia. In the church there are many remarkable valuable details of stone-mason’s work, and among them the main Baroque altar from 1733, made by Italian artist Giovanni Rosso.

After sightseeing, a short walk and a visit to the centuries-old vine-cellar, also built by count Erdödy. Nowadays here are stored superb wines of the wine company “Mladina”.

Afterwards, a short drive to wine roads surrounding Jastrebarsko. This area has long tradition of wine-growing. Large experience combined with continuous efforts and investments during last ten years gave the results, and today the wine-producers of this area are among the best in Croatia, and have received numerous acknowledgements and awards. A visit to one of the vine-cellars, a tour of the estate and cellars, lunch and wine-tasting with live music. Return to Zagreb.
